Studio Rules NOMO Ceramics Atelier
Welcome to NOMO Ceramics! We want everyone to feel at home and enjoy working here. That's why we've established the following house rules. By participating in our courses or activities, you agree to these rules.
1. General use of the workspace
- Quiet & Respect: Be considerate of fellow students and staff. Work in a quiet, respectful atmosphere and avoid unnecessary noise.
- Cleanup workspace: Tidy up your workspace after use. Remove clay residues, clean tools, and leave the space ready for the next student.
- Personal shelf: Everyone is assigned a personal (spacious) shelf. Always store your materials and works in it. You are responsible for storing and recycling your clay.
2. Use of materials
- Workshop materials: Use only the clay, glazes, and other materials provided by NOMO Ceramics unless otherwise agreed.
- Purchase clay and glaze: To ensure quality and prevent damage to our kilns, it is not allowed to bring clay or glazes from outside. We offer a high-quality selection in our workshop, comparable to wholesale prices.
- Care for tools and machines: Use all equipment carefully and responsibly. Report any damage or defects to the staff immediately.
3. Hygiene and safety
- Wash hands: Wash your hands before and after working with clay and glazes.
- Appropriate clothing: Wear (work) clothes that can get dirty, and preferably an apron. Avoid loose jewelry or clothing.
- Protective equipment: You can wear a dust mask for dust-sensitive operations. If in doubt, consult the instructor or staff.
4. Working, firing, and pickup
- Place work on kiln racks: If your work needs to be fired, place it on the appropriate racks in the kiln room, clearly labeled and in accordance with the correct firing temperature.
- No access to kilns: Never place or remove work in or from the kilns yourself. Our staff loads and unloads the kilns carefully to ensure optimal firing results and safety.
- Pickup after firing: Once fired, your work will be ready on the racks in the kiln room for pickup.
- Label your work: Label all your pieces with your name or initials to prevent misunderstandings.
5. Storage and pickup of pieces
- Timely pickup: Make sure to collect your pieces within the agreed time frame. Abandoned work may be removed to free up storage space.
- Use your personal shelf: Use your personal shelf to store your belongings. Ensure your clay is always recycled or timely repacked to prevent drying and waste.
6. Facilities and personal belongings
- Coffee and tea: Coffee and tea are available in the designated area. Keep this area clean and tidy.
- No liability: NOMO Ceramics is not responsible for loss or theft of personal belongings. Store your items in the designated areas.
7. Waste and recycling
- Proper waste disposal: Dispose of clay residues and packaging in the designated bins.
- Reuse: Recycle and reuse materials where possible to minimize waste.
8. What to bring for the course
